Frequently Asked Questions
Will introducing my baby to a second language whilst they are trying to learn their primary language confuse them?
Although trying to learn one language seems highly confusing to us as adults, scientific research indicates that young children are able to learn three different languages simultaneously without any confusion. Research shows that children and adults who speak more than one language actually develop greater vocabulary in their mother tongue, and demonstrate superior reading, writing, analytical and even social skills compared to their monolingual counterparts.
What happens if my child needs to feed, nap or needs a nappy change during a class?
As parents we understand that sometimes babies can’t wait. Don’t hesitate to do what you need to do. We always choose venues with private changing facilities; you may wish to change, feed or comfort your baby within the room.
Can babies and young children actually learn French from one 45 minutes session per week?
In our experience babies who have started baby French classes at a pre-verbal age, have readily joined in saying words in French and singing the songs once they become verbal. You will also see that pre verbal babies begin to understand simple instructions in French
Older children demonstrate a particularly fast ability to understand directions and instructions in French, and soon become confident enough to mimic what the teacher says and experiment with things independently in French.
What do I need to bring to the class?
We understand that as the parent or guardian of a little person there are many things you carry with you whenever you leave the house. You will be pleased to know that for La Petite French School you do not require anything else. However, if a session may involve getting wet or dirty, we will let you know in advance.
What if I can’t make it to a class?
Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds if you are unable to make it. If you are unable to attend your normal session, please get in touch and we will endeavour to offer you an alternative class the same week. Otherwise you are welcome to gift your space to a friend with a baby!
